Entertainment producer Shonda Rhimes has committed to extending her partnership with Netflix for an additional five years. Rhimes and her production company Shondaland, along with producing partner Betsy Beers, have maintained a presence at the streaming platform since 2017 and will continue their exclusive collaboration moving forward.
The expanded agreement encompasses more than traditional television and film projects. Netflix’s arrangement with Shondaland now includes gaming, merchandise, and live event opportunities tied to the company’s intellectual properties. The deal also provides continued support for the Ladder Program, an initiative designed to develop underrepresented below-the-line creative professionals in the industry.
Shondaland’s most successful Netflix venture to date remains “Bridgerton,” which recently completed its fourth season and has already been greenlit for a fifth installment. The period drama ranks among Netflix’s most-watched content, with earlier seasons garnering over 100 million views each. Beyond “Bridgerton,” Shondaland has produced several other notable projects for the platform, including the limited series “Inventing Anna,” the mystery drama “The Residence,” and documentary features such as “Black Barbie” and “Dance Dreams: Hot Chocolate Nutcracker.”
Netflix’s chief content officer praised the renewal, highlighting the creative partnership’s impact on global culture, while Rhimes expressed gratitude for the platform’s support in telling diverse, resonant stories.
