Disney+ has announced a November premiere date for “The Remarried Empress,” a 10-episode Korean drama based on the wildly popular Naver Webtoon series. The webtoon has accumulated nearly three billion views since its creation, demonstrating significant audience interest in the story’s themes of romance, betrayal, and political intrigue.
The series follows Empress Navier and Emperor Sovieshu of the Eastern Kingdom as their marriage deteriorates when the emperor becomes infatuated with a former slave named Rashta. In response to the emperor’s desires, Navier negotiates permission to marry Crown Prince Heinrey from a neighboring kingdom, triggering a complex battle for power and affection that threatens regional stability. The cast includes Shin Mina as the empress, Ju Jihoon as the emperor, Lee Jongsuk as the crown prince, and Lee Seyoung as Rashta.
Under the direction of Cho Suwon, the production was filmed across European palaces and elaborate sets designed to bring the fantasy world to life. The series will debut at South Korea’s Busan International Film Festival in October, where three episodes will screen before the full rollout. Disney+ will release four episodes on November 4, followed by two episodes each Wednesday through November 25.
“The Remarried Empress” joins Disney+’s growing catalog of Korean original programming, which also includes titles centered on espionage, political conspiracies, and superhero narratives.
