Selena Gomez is contesting fraud allegations connected to the mental health company Wondermind in legal filings released this week. Investors in the startup, which began operations in 2021, initiated legal action against Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey, and co-founder Daniella Pierson, claiming they invested approximately $1.2 million based on misleading information about the company’s structure, management, and capabilities. The investors allege the company ultimately collapsed without proper communication.
Gomez’s legal team submitted a motion to have the performer removed from the case entirely. Her attorney characterized the allegations as fundamentally without merit, describing them as “completely meritless if not frivolous” and the fraud accusations as “absurd.” The legal filing asserts that Gomez lacked involvement in the startup’s operations and investor communications, positioning her as an unsuitable defendant.
According to court documents, Gomez held a minority investment stake and served as a consultant with the title of Chief Impact Officer, but did not participate in managing the company. The filing indicates that operational control rested with Teefey and Pierson, who functioned as co-CEOs and board members. Gomez’s attorneys suggested the company misrepresented promises to investors regarding an upcoming app, advertising partnerships, and media coverage that never materialized during the three years preceding the company’s failure.
