Netflix’s upcoming live-action adaptation of “Scooby-Doo: Origins” has expanded its cast with the addition of musician Andre 3000 and acclaimed actress Cathy Moriarty in recurring roles. The series, currently in production in Atlanta, is slated to arrive on the streaming platform in 2027. The project features Maxwell Jenkins, Tanner Hagen, Abby Ryder Fortson, and Mckenna Grace as the core members of Mystery Inc., with Paul Walter Hauser also joining the ensemble in an unspecified capacity.
The reimagined series follows a group of friends during their final summer at camp who become entangled in a mysterious case involving a Great Dane puppy connected to a supernatural murder. Their investigation draws them into a dark conspiracy that threatens to unearth long-buried secrets from each character’s past. Additional cast members include Sara Gilbert, Bruce McGill, and Sherilyn Fenn, though specific character details remain undisclosed.
Benjamin, known for his influential work with Outkast and solo career, has previously appeared in films such as “Idlewild” and “Jimi: All Is By My Side,” as well as television programs like “The Shield” and “American Crime.” Moriarty brings extensive experience to the project, having earned an Oscar nomination for her role in Martin Scorsese’s “Raging Bull” and appearing in recent television series including “Elsbeth” and “Will Trent.”
The series is helmed by showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, with Greg Berlanti and Toby Haynes serving as executive producers and directing the premiere episode. Warner Bros. Television will produce the project.
