Paris-based sales company Moveria has taken on international distribution responsibilities for “Will You Still Be My Friend,” a debut feature from Taiwanese director Lu Po-Shun. The Taiwan-Singapore co-production will premiere in the New Directors section at San Sebastián Film Festival before heading to the Busan International Film Festival, where it is also being considered for the Sebastiane Award, which recognizes films addressing LGBTQIA+ narratives.
The coming-of-age drama centers on two young boys portrayed by Jaden Wang and Aloysius Looi whose friendship faces challenges as family and community tensions escalate in a rural Taiwanese setting. The story explores how the characters must conceal their bond from those around them while each begins to privately grapple with the nature of their connection to one another.
Moveria’s head of sales, Yasmin Porangaba, highlighted what drew the company to the project, emphasizing the authentic dynamic between the two leads and the film’s refusal to impose definitions on their relationship. Producers Eric Chou Tseng-Chen and Yu-Hao Su brought the film to life through their companies InLight Film Studio and Verdant Peak Films, both based in Taiwan. Lu previously directed segments in notable productions and earned recognition at the Taipei Film Awards for his short film work.
