Watermelon Pictures has secured distribution rights to “Everything Is Not OK,” a documentary directed by Dev Benegal that explores the life and artistic practice of Judith Blum Reddy. The film will debut exclusively on Watermelon+, the distributor’s dedicated streaming service. The project brings together producers Maya S. Patel and Neeraj Jain from Min(d) Studio alongside Benegal, with acclaimed filmmaker Annemarie Jacir taking on an executive producer role.
The documentary examines Reddy’s artistic journey shaped by the Holocaust and displacement across New York, Paris, and India. Benegal weaves together narratives from fellow artists Nil Yalter, Zarina, and Camille Billops, each having transformed their experiences of displacement into creative work. The film incorporates voices of Palestinian, Kashmiri, and Indian poets, constructing a broader reflection on memory, erasure, and artistic resistance.
Benegal describes the work as more than a biographical portrait, positioning it as an exploration of art’s power as a confrontational and liberating force. Jacir was drawn to the project’s thematic emphasis on memory and resistance, noting its relevance to contemporary global circumstances. The production team includes cinematographer Jean-Luc Panda, composer Dhruv Goel, and editor Mona Gesbel, with both Jacir and actor Adam Bakri contributing vocal performances for poetry readings.
Watermelon Pictures, established in 2024, has developed a reputation for acquiring award-recognized international cinema, with several previous releases earning Academy Award recognition and nominations.
