A scheduled lightweight bout between Renato Moicano and Brian Ortega will not take place at UFC 331 this weekend in Los Angeles. The cancellation stems from an injury sustained by Ortega, which forced the promotion to remove the matchup from the card entirely.
Rather than sitting out, Moicano has been reassigned to compete on an upcoming UFC Fight Night event. The Brazilian fighter will face Tom Nolan in the main event of the card, which takes place on October 31 at the Meta APEX facility in Las Vegas. The UFC made the announcement on Monday.
The withdrawal of the Moicano-Ortega fight reduces UFC 331’s total fight card to 12 bouts. The heavyweight clash between Gable Steveson and Sean Sharaf will now serve as the opening match of the main card on Saturday night.
UFC 331 continues with its previously announced headliner featuring flyweight champion Joshua Van defending his title against former champion Alexandre Pantoja in a rematch.
