Regan Smith, a former full-time NASCAR competitor turned broadcast journalist, is preparing for his return to racing competition. The veteran driver will pilot the No. 25 RAM 1500 truck for Kaulig Racing at two upcoming NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events this fall, marking his first competitive driving since 2017.
Smith is scheduled to compete at Bristol Motor Speedway on September 17 and Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 9. Interestingly, Smith learned about his participation in the Charlotte race while working as a commentator during the New Hampshire Truck event, apparently unaware of the second assignment at that time.
With 468 NASCAR starts across three national divisions, Smith brings considerable experience to the ride. His resume includes a 2011 Southern 500 victory at Darlington and 36 career Truck Series starts, though he has yet to claim a win in that category. His best Truck finish stands at fifth place. Kaulig Racing has utilized multiple drivers for its No. 25 entry during its inaugural season with RAM, featuring notable names including Tony Stewart, Travis Pastrana, AJ Allmendinger, and Ryan Newman among others.
The team’s best result thus far came when Allmendinger secured a sixth-place finish at Watkins Glen. Smith will attempt to improve on that performance during his two-race stint with the program.
