Production has commenced on “Prayal,” an apocalyptic action thriller featuring Ranveer Singh in the lead role. The film is being shot across various locations in Mumbai, with Singh also taking on producer duties alongside the primary production companies involved in the venture.
The project brings together several major players in Indian cinema. Ananya Birla’s Birla Studios is collaborating with True Story Films, a company headed by Hansal Mehta and Sahil Saigal, as well as Singh’s own production banner Maa Kasam Films. Jai Mehta, who previously worked on acclaimed projects including a well-known web series about financial fraud, is directing the film. The cast also includes Kalyani Priyadarshan, whose breakout role came in 2025.
The narrative centers on human survival during a global catastrophe, with the story unfolding against Mumbai’s urban landscape. The filmmakers have opted to use practical locations throughout the region rather than studio sets, aiming to enhance the visual authenticity and grandeur of the production. The crew comprises professionals from both India and international markets.
This marks Singh’s next venture following two commercially successful films released in 2025 and 2026. According to statements from the production companies, the film represents a fresh cinematic experience, with True Story Films noting it embodies their commitment to innovative storytelling approaches previously unseen in Indian cinema.
