Queen’s final concert performance featuring vocalist Freddie Mercury will reach audiences on massive screens this fall. The film, titled Queen Budapest, documents the legendary rock band’s 1986 performance in Hungary and will debut in cinemas on October 7th across more than 2,000 locations, with select IMAX presentations available.
The concert, recorded on July 27, 1986, at Budapest’s Népstadion, drew approximately 80,000 ticketed attendees along with an estimated 45,000 additional fans gathered outside the venue. The band performed a 25-song setlist showcasing their greatest hits, including “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Will Rock You,” and “Another One Bites the Dust,” alongside a Hungarian folk song arrangement.
The original 35mm footage has undergone extensive restoration, converted to 4K quality at Peter Jackson’s post-production facility in New Zealand. The audio has been remixed for theatrical release. Screenings will include a new interview with surviving band members Brian May and Roger Taylor reflecting on the historic performance, which marked their final filmed concert before Mercury’s death in 1991.
Beyond theatrical showings, the film will receive additional releases on October 30th in Blu-ray and DVD formats, with accompanying audio releases on CD and triple-LP vinyl.
