Punk pioneers Heavens to Betsy are set to release their first full-length album in three decades this October. The project, titled Baby’s Gone, compiles previously unreleased material spanning from the early 1990s, including a demo tape recorded in 1992 along with recordings from 1993 and 1994. The album will be available through Kill Rock Stars in multiple formats, featuring special vinyl editions, CD, and cassette versions.
The duo consists of Corin Tucker, known for her work with Sleater-Kinney, and Tracy Sawyer, who has performed with various bands including the Husbands and the Flying Tigers. The collection includes 16 tracks and features liner notes from Molly Neuman, a member of Bratmobile who originally recorded the demo tape while the group was in college. The band has already shared “Ain’t Never Goin’ Back” as the lead single from the forthcoming release.
Heavens to Betsy’s original work addressed social and political issues including sexual harassment, gender roles, racism, and privilege. Both members have emphasized how these themes remain relevant today. The group recently performed a surprise reunion concert in Portland and plans to launch a tour beginning October 16 in Minneapolis, marking a significant moment for the influential punk act nearly 35 years after their original work.
