Pixar has announced an original supernatural film titled “Ghost Street” scheduled for release in spring 2028. The project was revealed by Pete Doctor, Pixar’s chief content officer, during D23, Disney’s annual fan convention. The film draws inspiration from Asian mythology depicting marketplaces where the living and deceased coexist.
The movie follows Kyle, a fast-talking teenager and content creator from Chicago whose vacation to Hawaii takes an unexpected turn. After discovering a hidden market in an isolated location while seeking a late-night snack, Kyle becomes aware that he has stumbled upon a supernatural crossroads connecting two worlds. The film will be directed by Trevor Jimenez, a veteran animator behind the Oscar-nominated 2017 short “Weekends” who has also contributed to other Pixar productions.
The project was originally conceived as a streaming series before being elevated to a feature film, mirroring a similar decision made with Disney Animation’s “Moana 2,” which became a major box office success. This release continues Pixar’s strategy of producing multiple films annually, positioning “Ghost Street” alongside “The Incredibles 3” for 2028 distribution.
