The Philadelphia Eagles have made significant roster adjustments ahead of their preseason matchup with the New England Patriots. The team announced the waiver of wide receiver Johnny Wilson, who was designated with an injury. Wilson, a sixth-round draft pick from 2024, had appeared in 16 games during his inaugural season, recording five receptions on 15 targets for 38 yards and one touchdown.
Wilson’s departure stems largely from a torn anterior cruciate ligament sustained during training camp that sidelined him for the entire 2025 season. The injury proved to be a significant factor in the team’s decision to release the young receiver, who had shown early promise during the previous year’s preseason activities and was competing for the fifth wide receiver position on the roster.
In conjunction with Wilson’s release, the Eagles executed several other roster moves. The organization signed center Zeke Correll and wide receiver Brandon Hayes while simultaneously placing cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields on injured reserve. These moves indicate the team is making strategic adjustments to bolster their offensive and defensive depth.
With Wilson now departing, fellow receivers Darius Cooper and Elijah Moore are among those competing for remaining spots in Philadelphia’s receiving unit. Wilson must concentrate on his recovery and rehabilitation as he looks to demonstrate his ability to stay healthy and secure future opportunities in professional football.
