The Green Bay Packers have acquired running back Kaleb Johnson from the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of the NFL’s roster cutdown deadline. Johnson, a third-round selection in the 2025 draft, had been competing for carries in a crowded Pittsburgh backfield that also featured Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle.
The trade comes as the Packers look to strengthen their running back depth following uncertainty in their own backfield. By bringing in Johnson, the team is providing the young back with an opportunity to compete for a more prominent role in Green Bay’s offensive scheme.
In a related move, the Packers also released running back Pierre Strong Jr. as they continue to shape their roster composition during the final preseason adjustments.
