Alexandra Artrip, who portrayed the youngest daughter in the 1998 film “Practical Magic,” has addressed concerns surrounding the casting changes in the upcoming sequel. Both Artrip and fellow original cast member Evan Rachel Wood have been replaced by younger actresses Maisie Williams and Joey King, respectively, for “Practical Magic 2.”
In an Instagram video, Artrip responded to fan comments expressing disappointment about the recasting. While acknowledging the support shown toward her and Wood, she encouraged followers to avoid negativity on her platform. Artrip praised the new actresses and suggested the production team made decisions they believed would benefit the film’s success.
Artrip expressed enthusiasm about the sequel’s expansion of the franchise and reflected positively on revisiting memories from the original production. Director Susanne Bier clarified that the recasting decisions were not personal, explaining that the characters required younger performers appropriate for roles of college-aged individuals. “Practical Magic 2” is scheduled for theatrical release on September 10.
