The New York Times has released a sports-themed version of its popular word puzzle game in collaboration with The Athletic. Today’s puzzle, number 704, features content that should appeal particularly to baseball enthusiasts looking to test their sports knowledge.
Like the original Connections game, players must identify common threads linking groups of four words from a board of 16 total words. Each puzzle contains four distinct categories organized by difficulty level, indicated by color coding from yellow (easiest) through green, blue, and purple (hardest). Players receive up to four incorrect guesses before the game ends. The puzzle resets daily after midnight and can be played on web browsers or mobile devices.
Today’s categories include statistics associated with baseball hitters, universities located in Alabama, references connected to soccer player Erling Haaland, and famous athletes who wore the number eight. The specific solutions are batting average, home runs, RBIs, and runs for the first category; Alabama, Auburn, Troy, and UAB for the second; goals, Manchester City, Norway, and zen pose for the third; and Aikman, Berra, Jackson, and Ovechkin for the final category.
Players can shuffle the board to help identify connections and share their results on social media platforms. New puzzles become available daily for continued gameplay.
