Netflix has completed filming on its upcoming live-action series “Scooby-Doo: Origins,” marking a significant milestone for the project ahead of its 2027 debut on the platform. The announcement came on Sunday, with the streaming giant confirming the show will reach audiences worldwide when it launches next year.
The series reimagines the classic mystery-solving franchise for a contemporary audience, following a group of teenagers and their canine companion as they navigate supernatural mysteries during a pivotal summer at camp. According to the show’s description, the storyline centers on childhood friends Shaggy and Daphne uncovering a disturbing case involving a young Great Dane that may have witnessed a murder with paranormal elements. The investigation draws in Velma, a science-minded local, and Freddy, a mysterious newcomer, as they confront secrets and nightmares tied to the case.
Production took place in Atlanta, continuing Netflix’s pattern of filming major projects in Georgia. The cast features McKenna Grace, Tanner Hagen, Abby Ryder Fortson, and Maxwell Jenkins in lead roles, with Paul Walter Hauser and numerous supporting actors rounding out the ensemble. Notably, the production marks the franchise’s first use of an actual Great Dane to portray the titular character, departing from previous animated and digitally-created versions.
Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg serve as showrunners and writers, while Greg Berlanti’s production company oversees development alongside Warner Bros. Television.
