Netflix has enlisted filmmaker Peter Berg to direct opening sequences for all four of the streaming service’s NFL gameday broadcasts this season. The inaugural opener, set to air Thursday during the Los Angeles Rams versus San Francisco 49ers matchup from Melbourne, Australia, features narration from Kyle Chandler, best known for his role in the television adaptation of “Friday Night Lights.”
Berg’s connection to the football franchise runs deep, having directed the 2004 film that inspired the beloved TV series. Chandler, who played Coach Taylor in the NBC show, lends his voice to the debut segment titled “For the Love of Football.” The two-minute piece weaves together footage of youth football teams and their coaches with professional NFL action, echoing the dramatic tone the original “Friday Night Lights” project brought to the sport.
Chandler’s narration draws directly from the iconic catchphrase associated with the series, saying “Clear eyes, full hearts. Can’t lose,” as he reflects on the dedication and passion required to succeed in football. Berg will create similar opening videos for three additional Netflix NFL broadcasts throughout the season, including games on Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Day, and in mid-January 2027.
Beyond his work on these NFL teasers, Berg continues collaborating with Netflix on other projects, including “The Mosquito Bowl,” a sports drama set to release theatrically in October before arriving on the platform in November.
