Netflix has commenced production on a follow-up to “Ad Vitam,” the 2025 French action thriller that featured Guillaume Canet in a leading role. The upcoming film carries the working title “Ad Vitam Eternam,” a Latin phrase meaning “to eternal life.” Canet is set to reprise his role as Franck Lazareff, a character who formerly served as an operative with France’s elite GIGN tactical unit.
The sequel’s plot follows Lazareff as he attempts to uncover the identity of those targeting his life following a survival of an assassination attempt after his prison release. When French intelligence officials locate him while in hiding with his family in mountainous terrain, they propose a clandestine operation in exchange for the answers he seeks. Ludovic Colbeau-Justin will helm the project, taking over directorial duties from the original film’s creator Rodolphe Lauga.
The film boasts an ensemble cast including Stéphane Caillard, Nassim Lyes, Zita Hanrot, Nicolas Duvauchelle, Sophie Marceau and Mathieu Amalric. Production will take place across multiple French regions including Normandy, Savoie and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. The original “Ad Vitam” achieved significant viewership success on Netflix France, ranking ninth among the platform’s most-watched non-English films.
