The recognition coincides with a special 30th anniversary screening of “The Birdcage,” the 1996 comedy classic directed by Mike Nichols. Following the film, Lane will participate in an on-stage conversation with Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz, providing audiences an opportunity to hear directly from the acclaimed actor about his iconic role and career highlights.
In “The Birdcage,” Lane starred alongside Robin Williams as Albert, one half of a same-sex couple running a Miami drag club who navigate comedic chaos when trying to hide their relationship from a conservative politician. The Virginia Film Festival will take place October 21-25 in Charlottesville.
