Morehead State University held its annual media day this week, with the Eagles preparing for their 2026 season opener against Ohio Dominican on August 27. The event provided insight into the program’s upcoming campaign under head coach Jason Woodman, now in his third year leading the program.
A significant focus of media day centered on the quarterback competition. Following Carter Cravens’ graduation, Bryce Patterson has emerged as the leading candidate for the starting position. Patterson appeared in five games last season, accumulating 239 passing yards and one touchdown, along with six rushing attempts. However, the competition remains unresolved, with Allen Garnett and Will Prichard also in contention for the role.
The defensive unit presents a notable strength for the Eagles. Morehead State returns an experienced group with all defensive coaches retained from the previous season, allowing the team to maintain continuity and establish a cohesive identity emphasizing speed, aggression, and physical play. The defense received considerable recognition in Phil Steele’s preseason honors, with the majority of the nine Eagles recognized playing on the defensive side of the ball.
Woodman expressed confidence about the direction of the program heading into the season. After compiling a 7-5 record in his inaugural year and a 6-6 mark in 2025, the coach indicated that his current roster and coaching staff represent the strongest assembly during his tenure. Woodman emphasized that the program’s culture and personnel now fully align with his vision for the team.
