A significant transfer fell through on the final day of the summer window as AS Monaco’s Folarin Balogun decided to reject Everton’s advances. The 25-year-old striker, who had been the subject of intense negotiations between the two clubs, ultimately chose to remain at the French principality rather than complete the move to the Premier League.
The collapse came as a surprise given that both clubs had already agreed on revised terms, with the deal valued at approximately €50 million. Everton had previously expressed concerns about the transfer but managed to reach a fresh agreement with Monaco. However, Balogun’s decision to turn down the opportunity derailed the arrangement entirely.
The Merseyside club had been actively seeking attacking reinforcements following the departures of key forwards this summer. Both Iliman Ndiaye and Beto had left the club, prompting Everton to pursue Balogun as a replacement. The club had also attempted to secure a loan arrangement for Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee earlier in the day, but that effort proved unsuccessful.
The failed transfer also impacted Monaco’s financial plans, as the sale proceeds would have strengthened their position. The setback came on the same evening the club cancelled midfielder Lamine Camara’s transfer to Chelsea, adding to what proved a disappointing deadline day for the French outfit.
