A new Korean-Japanese romantic comedy series titled “Merry Berry Love” will premiere on Disney+ and Hulu starting October 7. The production marks a collaboration between Korean entertainment powerhouse CJ ENM, Disney, and Japan’s Nippon TV, bringing together talent from both nations for what appears to be a deliberate cross-cultural appeal.
The series centers on two contrasting characters who meet on a scenic Japanese island. Ji Chang-wook, renowned for his roles in “The Worst of Evil” and “The Manipulated,” portrays Lee Yubin, an urban professional struggling with significant life changes. Japanese actress Imada Mio, recognized for her work in “Tokyo Revengers,” plays Karin Shirahama, a strawberry farmer deeply committed to her agricultural pursuits. An unexpectedly awkward first meeting between the pair leads to a misunderstanding that becomes the catalyst for their developing relationship.
The creative team behind the project includes co-directors Kim Soojung and Noh Youngsub, with Lee Jaeyoon handling screenplay duties. CJ ENM brings considerable experience to the project, having previously produced globally successful titles such as “Crash Landing on You” and “Queen of Tears.” This latest addition to the streaming platforms’ expanding Asian original content continues their investment in romance-focused programming from the region.
