Fox has greenlit a new live-action comedy series titled “Mammoth,” marking a significant addition to the network’s lineup. The show comes from Christopher Lloyd, who co-created the hit series “Modern Family,” and Danny Zuker, a writer and executive producer on that same acclaimed program. The comedy is adapted from a British sitcom of the same name created by Mike Bubbins.
The premise centers on Coach Tony Mammoth, a charismatic high school gym teacher whose existence takes an unexpected turn when an avalanche buries him in 1983. After spending four decades frozen, he awakens to discover an entirely transformed world. Despite the dramatic changes surrounding him, Mammoth remains convinced that modern society has lost its way, clinging to 1980s values and aesthetics including his signature mustache and vintage automobile.
Lloyd and Zuker expressed enthusiasm about the character, describing him as confident yet hopelessly outdated, someone who possesses both charm and significant blind spots. The showrunners highlighted how Mammoth’s second chance at life becomes complicated by his inability to adapt to contemporary norms and relationships. The series is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios, with BBC Studios Los Angeles also involved in production. The show is scheduled to premiere during the 2027-2028 television season.
