Missoula Big Sky demonstrated its elite status by rallying past Great Falls High in a nonconference matchup on Friday night. The Eagles, ranked second in their classification, trailed at halftime but outscored the Bison significantly in the second half to secure a 28-14 victory at Missoula County Public Schools Stadium.
Great Falls built an unexpected first-half advantage thanks to quarterback Tristan O’Leary, who connected with receivers Hunter Christensen and Kayden Davison for touchdowns. O’Leary completed 12 of 19 passes for 100 yards with one interception, keeping his team competitive throughout much of the contest. However, Big Sky’s defense proved suffocating in the second half, holding the Bison scoreless while the Eagles added two unanswered touchdowns.
Big Sky’s offensive production came from multiple sources. Quarterback Eli Kasberg, a University of Montana commit, finished 13 for 24 through the air for 151 yards while contributing both a passing and rushing touchdown. Kasberg also rushed for 100 yards, providing the Eagles with a balanced attack. Head coach Matt Johnson praised his opponent’s execution, noting that Great Falls’ defensive scheme presented valuable challenges early in the season.
Great Falls begins Eastern AA play against Billings West on September 11, while Big Sky hosts Helena Capital on September 10 before facing the same Billings West squad.
