The seasoned performer earned a nomination for outstanding comedy lead actor in the Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building,” where he also received recognition as an executive producer. Additionally, Short secured a nomination for his work as host of ABC’s “Match Game,” demonstrating his versatility across different entertainment formats.
The entertainer’s third Emmy-related project is the Netflix documentary “Marty, Life Is Short,” directed by Lawrence Kasdan, which earned three nominations despite Short not being part of the production team. Short explained that he initially hesitated when Kasdan approached him about the film, but was convinced after hearing an eight-minute explanation of why his story deserved to be told. He provided Kasdan with extensive home video archives he had accumulated over decades, supplemented by footage Steven Spielberg contributed.
The documentary took on additional significance following the death of Short’s daughter Katherine in February. Rather than delay the film’s release, Short chose to proceed, viewing it as an opportunity to discuss mental health and loss. Since premiering globally in May, Short has received considerable feedback from viewers appreciating how the film addressed his journey through grief, and he emphasized that the recognition from industry peers remains deeply meaningful to him.
