A new film adaptation of Aravind Adiga’s novel “Last Man in Tower” will arrive in Indian cinemas this September, marking a significant collaboration between two celebrated actors. The production, helmed by director Ben Rekhi and produced through Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media banner, stars Manoj Bajpayee alongside Boman Irani, marking their first on-screen pairing. Divya Dutta rounds out the principal cast in the drama, which draws from the work of the author behind the Booker Prize-winning novel “The White Tiger.”
The film’s narrative centers on Masterji, a retired schoolteacher whose principled stance creates tension within his community. His quiet resistance becomes a catalyst that forces neighbors to confront their own choices and sacrifices as circumstances pressure them toward compromise. The screenplay adaptation comes from Sooni Taraporevala, with Hindi dialogue crafted by Juhi Chaturvedi. A teaser for the project has already been released to audiences.
The September release represents a milestone for Spirit Media, as it constitutes the Hyderabad-based company’s inaugural Hindi-language feature production since its 2005 founding. Director Rekhi, a Los Angeles-based filmmaker, brings experience from multiple acclaimed projects, including SXSW award winners and Academy Award-qualified work. The film’s technical team includes composer Govind Vasantha and cinematographer Rangarajan Ramabadran, with additional producers Guneet Dogra and Pratiksha Rao. “Last Man in Tower” is scheduled to open on September 11.
