LSU football conducted its 12th preseason practice session on Tuesday with several key players absent from the field. The Tigers held a full-padded workout at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility as they prepare for head coach Lane Kiffin’s debut against No. 23 Clemson on September 5th. With less than three weeks until kickoff, the team’s depth at certain positions is being tested by injuries and other absences.
Running back Harlem Berry missed his second consecutive practice, a notable setback after impressing during the team’s preseason scrimmage over the weekend. Backup quarterback options Caden Durham and Stacey Gage have been stepping up in practice as replacements in the backfield. Similarly, junior defensive end Jordan Ross sat out for the second straight day after maintaining a strong presence in the defensive line rotation through the first 11 practices.
Cornerback DJ Pickett switched into a non-contact jersey for the first time this preseason, marking a shift from his participation status during Monday’s practice. Despite the precautionary measure, he remained active in drills and showed no apparent limitations. With limited depth at the cornerback position, the team will continue monitoring his status closely.
Quarterback Sam Leavitt showcased efficient play during the portions of practice open to media, completing all six of his deeper passing attempts and displaying accuracy on intermediate routes. His performance on the field suggests the offense is progressing as preparations continue toward the season opener.
