Leicestershire have secured fast bowler Nathan Gilchrist from Warwickshire on a temporary loan deal covering two County Championship fixtures. The 26-year-old will provide injury cover for the Foxes during their upcoming Division One matches against Somerset, beginning on Tuesday, and Hampshire.
Gilchrist, who recently joined the Bears following a five-year stint with Kent, will be unavailable for Leicestershire’s One Day Cup final against Middlesex scheduled for September 20 at Trent Bridge. The right-arm bowler has demonstrated his quality at first-class level and previously represented England Lions during the winter period.
Leicestershire currently occupy second-bottom position in Division One but remain competitive, sitting just seven points outside the safety zone with three matches remaining. The club’s director of cricket, Claude Henderson, expressed confidence in the acquisition, describing Gilchrist as a high-quality performer whose international representation underscores his capability at this level.
Gilchrist welcomed the prospect of additional Championship cricket, stating his intention to make a meaningful contribution during the critical end-of-season phase. His most recent first-class appearance occurred in June against Somerset, though he has continued playing in Warwickshire’s One Day Cup campaign throughout the season.
