Jared Kushner, the US President’s son-in-law and special envoy, is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday to discuss a 15-point Gaza proposal that Netanyahu has previously rejected. The meeting follows Kushner’s diplomatic visit to Egypt, where he participated in discussions with mediators from Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt, accompanied by Board of Peace Director-General Nickolay Mladenov and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.
During his Egypt visit, Kushner also engaged in rare direct talks with Hamas political leadership representatives. According to an official briefed on the matter, these conversations aimed to convert the proposed roadmap’s requirements into actionable, measurable commitments. The initiative comes after Trump announced in late July that an agreement had been reached regarding Hamas’s disarmament, with the development attributed to the US-led Board of Peace.
Netanyahu has publicly opposed the plan’s key provisions, particularly those requiring Hamas to gradually disarm and transfer Gaza’s governance to an international force while Israeli troops withdraw from the territory. However, Hamas stated its acceptance of the proposal, conditioning implementation on Israel fulfilling its commitments, including military withdrawal and ceasing operations. Netanyahu, preparing for re-election in October, faces diplomatic pressure to reconsider his position.
