Judith Sheindlin is marking three decades in the spotlight with a new television special arriving this fall. “Judge Judy: Unfiltered, Unforgettable” will air on CBS as a 90-minute primetime program, offering viewers an intimate retrospective of the beloved television personality’s remarkable career and personal journey.
The special, set to premiere September 22, traces Sheindlin’s path from her Brooklyn childhood through her nearly two decades serving as a Manhattan family court judge, before transitioning to the syndicated daytime courtroom program that made her a household name. Using personal home videos and archival materials, the documentary explores how she developed her distinctive no-nonsense judicial approach while maintaining fairness and empathy in her work.
The program features commentary from numerous celebrity admirers, including Amy Poehler, Samuel L. Jackson, Steven Spielberg and RuPaul, who share personal anecdotes about watching the show. Sheindlin’s son, Adam Levy, who now hosts his own court program called “Adam’s Law,” also participates in the retrospective alongside family members and former colleagues.
The special coincides with the 30th anniversary of the original “Judge Judy” program’s 1996 debut. The groundbreaking series ran for 25 seasons, becoming the highest-rated first-run syndicated program and establishing Sheindlin as daytime television’s most prominent and highest-paid personality. The special will stream on Paramount+ the day after its CBS broadcast.
