The Rome Film Festival has selected acclaimed Spanish actor Javier Bardem as the recipient of its lifetime achievement award. The Oscar-winning performer will be recognized during the festival, which runs from October 13-25. Paolo Sorrentino, himself an Academy Award-winning director, will present the prestigious honor to Bardem at the event.
As part of his involvement with the festival, Bardem will introduce a screening of “The Beloved,” a Spanish film directed by Rodrigo Sorogoyen. The drama, which initially debuted at the Cannes Film Festival, stars Bardem as an established filmmaker named Esteban Martinez who reconnects with his estranged daughter, a struggling performer, to collaborate on a film project. The story explores how the pair must address painful aspects of their history together.
Bardem’s recent work extends beyond Rome’s showcase. He recently appeared at the Venice Film Festival presenting “Bunker,” a Florian Zeller production co-starring his wife Penélope Cruz, which follows a couple whose marriage deteriorates when the husband decides to construct a bunker for a technology entrepreneur. Looking forward, Bardem is set to appear in “Dune: Part Three” and has completed filming on the Amazon MGM Studios project “Hello & Paris” alongside Kate Hudson.
