Studiocanal has unveiled Studiocanal Classics, a newly established international catalogue label that will leverage the company’s extensive film collection. Drawing from a library containing more than 18,000 titles spanning a century of cinema, the venture represents one of the largest film libraries outside the United States. The company has invested approximately €25 million over the past seven years to restore nearly 1,000 classic features to 4K quality.
The label’s initial theatrical releases showcase a diverse range of acclaimed works. James Cameron’s science fiction landmark “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” returned to cinemas worldwide beginning in late August across multiple formats, marking its 35th anniversary. Michael Mann’s thriller “Manhunter: The Final Cut,” a restored 4K version, opened in U.S. theaters in July and will reach the U.K. market in September. Additional notable releases include Guillermo del Toro’s “Pan’s Labyrinth” in a newly restored 4K version for its 20th anniversary and Ernst Lubitsch’s “To Be or Not to Be,” premiering at the Venice Film Festival.
Beyond theatrical distribution, Studiocanal Classics is releasing titles through home entertainment channels, with fall offerings including works by the Coen Brothers, Richard Attenborough, and Jean-Pierre Melville. The label is also presenting a Jacques Tati retrospective across European theaters. CEO Anna Marsh emphasized the company’s commitment to preserving cinematic heritage while making classic films accessible to global audiences across generations.
