Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end B.J. Green II sustained an elbow injury during the first quarter of Sunday’s season opener against the Cleveland Browns at EverBank Stadium on September 13. The second-year player was subsequently ruled questionable to return, leaving his availability for the remainder of the game uncertain.
Green was filling a backup role at defensive end behind Josh Hines-Allen when the injury occurred. The mishap happened while he was participating on the punt return team, a unit where he has become an integral contributor for Jacksonville.
The undrafted free agent has been a valuable roster addition since joining the Jaguars last season. Green, a former Colorado teammate of wide receiver Travis Hunter, compiled nine tackles and two sacks during his rookie campaign and earned increased playing time as the season progressed.
The Jaguars’ defensive line depth may be tested with Green sidelined. Third-string end Bryan Thomas Jr. was unavailable for the contest, appearing on the team’s inactive list, potentially limiting Jacksonville’s options along the line of scrimmage as the game continued.
