ICEE is launching its inaugural National ICEE Day on August 18, offering complimentary small beverages at over 1,800 participating locations nationwide. The frozen drink brand is seizing the opportunity to celebrate its long history by treating customers to free products at a wide range of retailers and entertainment venues.
The giveaway will be available at various establishment types, including Walmart Fuel stations and convenience stores, Krystal restaurant locations, and major cinema chains AMC Theatres and Regal Cinemas. Urban Air Adventure Park locations are also participating in the promotion. While most retailers require no purchase for the free offering, movie theater locations do require ticket or admission purchases to qualify for the deal.
Dan Fachner, who leads parent company J&J Snack Foods, emphasized the brand’s significance in consumers’ lives, stating the promotion represents appreciation for customer loyalty. The company intends to establish this as an annual August tradition moving forward. Additionally, customers who obtain their free ICEE can enter a sweepstakes by sharing photos on social media using a specific hashtag and tagging the official ICEE account, with prizes including an at-home ICEE machine.
The inaugural event comes roughly two months after 7-Eleven celebrated its own frozen beverage tradition with National Slurpee Day in July. Both beverages trace their roots to innovator Omar Knedlik, who developed the original ICEE concept in the early 1960s, with Slurpee emerging as a licensed adaptation five years later.
