An Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon has resulted in seven deaths and three injuries, marking the most severe such attack since June peace agreements substantially reduced hostilities in the region. The strike targeted a residential building on the outskirts of Ansar in the Nabatieh district early Saturday morning, completely destroying the structure according to Lebanon’s National News Agency.
Emergency response teams mobilized quickly to the scene, working to clear debris and transport casualties to nearby hospitals. The incident occurred as Israeli military operations intensified across multiple southern Lebanese locations overnight, including strikes on the Ali al-Taher Ridge and strikes near educational and community facilities in Nabatieh al-Fawqa.
The attack extends into areas previously protected by a ceasefire arrangement established two months prior through a United States-sponsored framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel. Additional Israeli military action was reported along the border region, including strikes in Bint Jbeil and al-Mansouri, as well as gunfire directed at residential areas along border roads.
Despite formal agreements calling for Hezbollah’s disarmament, Israeli military withdrawal, and Lebanese army deployment in the south, tensions continue to simmer. Hezbollah leadership has publicly criticized Lebanese authorities for perceived inadequate protection of national forces amid continued Israeli operations in the region.
