The 31st Busan International Film Festival has announced an impressive roster of international guests, featuring acclaimed performers and filmmakers from across Asia and beyond. The lineup includes French-Polish actress Isabelle Huppert, who will present her latest work “All About Corinne,” and American actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, making her first visit to South Korea with “Flesh Impact,” a film marking the centennial celebration of Marilyn Monroe.
Among the distinguished attendees are acclaimed director Kore-eda Hirokazu from Japan with his anime adaptation “Look Back,” Chinese star Fan Bingbing, and Michelle Yeoh, who will return to the festival after 15 years to receive the Asian Filmmaker of the Year award. Yeoh will also be featured in the gala presentation “It’s My Time.” The festival has assembled an extensive international delegation, with additional guests from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, and Taiwan representing diverse cinematic traditions.
The competition section showcases 14 films highlighting contemporary Asian cinema, drawing submissions from Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Indonesia. The program includes four directorial debuts and features works from multiple female filmmakers. A separate Window on Asian Cinema section will present 28 additional titles from both established and emerging creators throughout the region, reflecting the festival’s commitment to diverse storytelling across the continent.
