Insta360 has unveiled the X6, its latest 360-degree action camera that combines a more compact body with upgraded imaging capabilities. The new model is noticeably smaller than its predecessors, the X5 and X4 Air, while maintaining enhanced video performance through larger Sony sensors measuring 1/1.1 inches. The X6 can record 8K footage at up to 50 frames per second, a significant jump from the previous generation’s 30fps maximum. The camera also features replaceable lenses that are five times more scratch-resistant and cost 60 percent less than previous versions.
The device boasts additional improvements designed to enhance user experience and content quality. A new OLED touchscreen replaces the LCD display of earlier models, despite being slightly smaller at 2.32 inches. The expanded sensor area delivers 33 percent more light sensitivity compared to the X5, resulting in superior low-light performance. The X6 also introduces in-camera Dolby Vision support, making it the first 360-degree camera to offer this technology for accurate HDR recording across compatible displays.
Battery performance has seen meaningful enhancements as well. Despite the smaller overall design, Insta360 increased the battery capacity to 2,600mAh, enabling approximately 51 percent longer recording times than the X5. The camera supports various recording modes, including 6K at 120fps and 4K at 240fps for slow-motion capture. The X6 launches today in black and white, starting at $699.99, with bundle options available that include accessories such as extra batteries and charging cases.
