The New York Jets may reopen their search for a kicking solution following Jason Sanders’s struggles in Friday’s preseason contest. The team had appeared to settle the position earlier in the week by releasing Cade York, but Sanders’s missed extra point in the first quarter and his missed field goal in the fourth quarter have prompted the organization to reconsider its approach heading into Week 1 against the Titans.
Head coach Aaron Glenn acknowledged the concern without overreacting to the missed kicks. Glenn stated the team would carefully evaluate whether to address the technical issues Sanders displayed or pursue alternative candidates for the role. Despite the recent misses, Glenn noted that Sanders has demonstrated competence during practice sessions throughout the preseason.
Sanders brings significant professional experience to the position, having served as the Miami Dolphins’ primary kicker for seven seasons. However, the former Dolphins standout sat out the entire previous season due to a hip injury, which may be a factor in his recent performance struggles as he works to regain full form with his new team.
