Stevie Nicks and Olivia Rodrigo will both contribute music to the soundtrack for “Practical Magic 2,” the highly anticipated sequel to the 1998 supernatural romance film. The collaboration was first hinted at by actress Sandra Bullock, who shared a video of the two artists performing together and cryptically referenced their involvement with the upcoming movie.
Though Nicks and Rodrigo performed a duet on “Landslide” at Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival in California, their contributions to the film’s soundtrack were recorded separately. Rodrigo’s track “The Cure” will play during one scene, while Nicks’ “Landslide” appears in another. For Nicks, returning to the “Practical Magic” universe represents a full circle moment, as her song “Crystal” was featured in the original 1998 film.
Rodrigo has described “The Cure” as one of her personal favorite songs she has created, explaining that the songwriting process helped her articulate complex emotions she had struggled to express. The film, which reunites original stars Bullock and Nicole Kidman alongside returning cast members Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, also introduces new actors including Joey King, Maisie Williams, and Lee Pace. “Practical Magic 2” arrives in theaters on September 10.
