Finland’s Finnish Film Affair, the nation’s premier international film and television market, has announced its comprehensive programming schedule for its September 23-25 event in Helsinki. Running concurrently with the Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy, the market will showcase 38 projects spanning various genres to over 500 industry professionals during its main Showcase Day on September 24.
The event features a notable emphasis on genre-driven content and documentaries from Nordic and international creators. Horror film “Nightborn,” directed by Hanna Bergholm, will open the market after winning top honors at the Fantasia Festival and earning Berlinale Golden Bear consideration. Eight Nordic genre films competing for best pitch will participate in a newly established partnership with the Nordic Genre Lab, a training and networking initiative created by Laura Laaksonen and former Netflix executive Claire Willats.
The lineup includes projects from established directors alongside emerging talent. Notable scripted selections include works by Aku Louhimies and Pamela Tola, while documentaries cover diverse subjects from environmental conservation to biographical stories. The television slate comprises six series across multiple genres, including thrillers, crime dramas, and animated content from acclaimed producers.
Market organizers reported record submission numbers this year, with 45 fiction projects in development and 22 documentaries submitted. The increased participation underscores Finland’s growing appeal as a production destination, with organizers noting a significant rise in European co-productions within the final selection.
