Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” maintained its commanding position at the South Korean box office during the final weekend of August. The film earned $8.7 million from over one million admissions across more than 2,000 screens, claiming nearly two-thirds of the weekend’s total box office revenue. The tentpole has now accumulated $71.7 million since its August 5 debut, demonstrating sustained audience interest in its fourth week of release.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” claimed second place in its fifth weekend, generating $1.9 million from approximately 250,000 viewers. The superhero blockbuster has collected $65 million domestically, placing it significantly behind the Nolan film despite its strong performance.
New releases filled the remaining top positions. “The Journey to Gyeongju,” a family drama directed by Kim Mi-jo about a mother and her daughters confronting a released criminal, debuted in third place with $912,660 in opening weekend earnings. “The End of Oak Street” followed in fourth position, while an animated musical fantasy titled “Teenieping: Legend of the Whale Heartstone” rounded out the top five.
Overall weekend box office receipts totaled $13.5 million, down from the previous week’s $16.1 million total. The market continues to be dominated by “The Odyssey,” which shows no signs of relinquishing its lead position in the coming weeks.
