The 32nd edition of New Nordic Films, an industry gathering tied to the Norwegian International Film Festival, has announced its full slate of projects for its August 25-28 event in Haugesund. The program features 36 Nordic projects split across two main categories, with approximately 300 industry professionals expected to attend.
The Nordic Co-Production Market will showcase 21 titles currently in development, selected from a record 120 submissions. Norway dominates the lineup with nine projects selected from 30 submissions, including five directorial debuts. The program highlights notable filmmakers including Hilmar Oddsson from Iceland and AJ Annila from Finland, alongside several accomplished Norwegian directors. Four French projects seeking co-financing and distribution will also be presented as part of a dedicated French Focus section.
Animation emerges as a particularly strong category this year, with six projects spanning both development and post-production stages. Norwegian director Harald Zwart is making his animation debut with “ViQueens,” an epic Viking tale featuring an accomplished English-language voice cast. Additional animated projects include “Millie and the Secret of the Crocodile” and “Saajve,” the first-ever Sámi animation project.
The Works in Progress section comprises 15 titles selected from 43 submissions, representing a diverse range of genres and production stages. Industry head Gyda Velvin Myklebust noted that high-quality post-production projects were particularly abundant this year, possibly due to increased market challenges.
