A federal lawsuit against SpaceXAI’s artificial intelligence tool Grok has gained momentum as additional victims have come forward. The case, which originated with three Tennessee teenagers filing suit in March, now includes two more plaintiffs who allege the AI system enabled the creation of explicit imagery depicting them as minors. Stability AI, developer of the Stable Diffusion image generation model, has also been named as a defendant in the expanding legal action.
One of the newly added plaintiffs described the widespread availability of these technologies as catastrophic for child safety. Court documents reveal that a single childhood photograph was used to generate thousands of explicit images and videos of the victim through Grok’s capabilities. The case alleges that SpaceXAI not only facilitated the creation of such material but potentially profited from related sex trafficking activities, while also demonstrating negligent product design.
Reporting requirements under federal law mandate that technology companies submit suspected child exploitation cases to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. However, investigations show that reports submitted by major platforms frequently lack critical details. In the case at hand, SpaceXAI filed only a single report regarding the plaintiff’s situation and declined to provide law enforcement with additional information when requested, despite evidence of thousands of abusive images produced through its platform.
The plaintiffs’ legal team has characterized Grok as fundamentally harmful to society, seeking class action status for the lawsuit as more individuals come forward with similar allegations.
