Google has announced a series of artificial intelligence enhancements to its Search platform aimed at helping students with their academic work. The tech giant is integrating study tools directly into its search engine, allowing learners to generate visual explanations of difficult subjects, create practice quizzes across multiple topics, and receive customized assistance for standardized test preparation. The company has partnered with educational organizations including The Princeton Review and PhysicsWallah to support these features.
Students can now upload images of assignments and study materials through Google Lens to receive detailed explanations powered by artificial intelligence. The platform also enables users to connect Gemini Notebook while in AI Mode, allowing the system to produce personalized study documents based on previous conversations and uploaded files. Additionally, Google has launched a dedicated student hub within Gemini that centralizes school-focused tools and can automatically synchronize important academic dates with Google Calendar.
Safety concerns have emerged regarding these tools for younger users. Child safety organization Common Sense Media previously raised concerns about potential risks to minors using Google’s AI-powered Search features. Google has since responded by opening Gemini access to students through its Classroom application, enabling them to request assignment help and generate study materials directly from teacher-provided content. The company disputed Common Sense Media’s findings, asserting that its AI features represent valuable educational resources.
As a back-to-school incentive, Google is offering United States college students complimentary access to Google AI Pro for one year. Students outside the country can receive twelve months of Google AI Plus at no cost, with additional discounts available for bundled subscription services.
