Norwegian actor Kristofer Hivju is venturing into romantic comedy for an upcoming Swedish-Croatian production titled “True Love.” The project pairs Hivju with Frida Hallgren, known for her role in the Oscar-nominated film “As It Is in Heaven.” Director Martina Haag, who transitioned from acting to filmmaking, is helming the SF Studios film, which is currently in pre-production and will be presented at the Nordic Co-Production Market on August 26.
The romantic comedy centers on Ellinor, a woman whose marriage ends after two decades, leaving her distrustful of others. Her skepticism intensifies when she suddenly inherits 40 million euros. She eventually meets Henrik, a charming man with a complicated past rooted in deception. Despite their contrasting approaches to honesty, the two form an unexpected connection. The narrative explores themes of trust, identity, and second chances for characters over fifty.
Haag collaborated with screenwriter Peter Arrhenius, their second partnership following “Little Did I Know,” which won Best Film at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival and became a major box office success in Sweden. Haag emphasized her commitment to telling stories centered on mature audiences, noting that relationship challenges and personal growth deserve greater representation in cinema. Producer Helen Ahlsson highlighted that Hivju’s casting marks a departure from his previous roles, positioning this romantic lead as a fresh challenge for the established actor.
