A GoFundMe campaign supporting the parents of Lindsay Clancy has surpassed $1.1 million in donations following a mistrial declaration in the Massachusetts case. The fundraising page, created for Mike and Paula Musgrove, was established in August to assist the family with expenses accumulated during the lengthy legal proceedings. Organizer Brandee Mulligan noted that the parents have spent considerable time and resources traveling between states, maintaining hotel accommodations, and attending court hearings.
After a judge declared a mistrial on Friday when one juror refused to reach consensus with the other eleven panel members, supporters of the Musgrove family responded with an outpouring of donations. Mulligan subsequently increased the fundraiser’s goal from $1 million to $3 million, citing the likelihood of a retrial and the extended financial burden the family will face. The initial objective was achieved within hours of the mistrial announcement, with contributions including a substantial $5,000 donation from an anonymous supporter.
The campaign’s success has prompted the emergence of competing fundraisers on the platform, including pages opposing the Musgrove family. GoFundMe announced it is actively monitoring all Clancy-related fundraisers and will remove any that violate its terms of service. Mulligan emphasized that the campaign aims to provide practical support to parents who sacrificed their own stability to remain present throughout their daughter’s legal battle.
