The running back took a handoff from backup quarterback Cooper Rush and raced 49 yards into the end zone, putting an exclamation point on his bid for a roster spot behind the team’s top two backs, Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson Jr.
Goodson’s dominant showing continued a strong pattern of play throughout the preseason. In the contest against Indianapolis, he accumulated 56 rushing yards and one touchdown on just four carries, demonstrating remarkable efficiency. He also impressed in the previous week’s game against Denver, leading all Falcons rushers with 28 yards on seven attempts.
With such compelling performances, other running backs competing for depth chart positions face an uphill battle. Undrafted rookie Cash Jones and Nathan Carter will need to find alternative ways to earn consideration for Atlanta’s 53-man roster, as Goodson has proven himself as the clear choice at the third running back spot.
