Apple has officially released iOS 27, making the operating system available for download on compatible iPhones beginning Monday, September 14. The rollout follows Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” event held on September 9, where the company unveiled several new products alongside details about the upcoming software update.
To download iOS 27, iPhone users should navigate to their Settings app, select General, and then choose Software Update. Apple typically releases new versions at 10:00 a.m. PT (1:00 p.m. ET). Users can also enable automatic updates, which will download the software when their device is locked and charging.
The new operating system introduces significant artificial intelligence capabilities, including a redesigned Siri that functions similarly to AI chatbots and integrates Google Gemini technology. Additional features include advanced photo-editing tools powered by artificial intelligence, such as spatial reframing, which allows users to remove unwanted elements from images. The update also brings refinements to Liquid Glass customization and minor improvements across Health, Photos, and Notes applications.
iOS 27 is compatible with devices ranging from the iPhone SE (second generation or later) through the newly announced iPhone 18 Pro Max and foldable iPhone Duo. However, European users will not receive access to Siri AI features due to regulatory constraints.
