Ellen Pompeo is expanding her television portfolio beyond her longtime role as Dr. Meredith Grey. The Grey’s Anatomy star has been cast to lead a new drama series titled “Not a Sound” currently in development at Hulu. The project hails from David E. Kelley, the creator behind acclaimed series Big Little Lies and Boston Legal.
The drama is adapted from Heather Gudenkauf’s novel and centers on Amelia Winn, a disgraced emergency room nurse who becomes deaf following a hit-and-run accident. The narrative takes a mysterious turn when Amelia and her service dog stumble upon a murdered former colleague, drawing her into an investigation that may uncover answers about the accident that transformed her life.
The creative team includes Matthew Tinker and Annakate Chappell as writers, with Tinker also serving as president of David E. Kelley Productions. Director Azazel Jacobs, known for His Three Daughters, is attached to the project. 20th Television serves as the studio, working under Pompeo’s overall deal with the company.
This marks another venture for Pompeo with Disney-owned properties. Her crime anthology series Good American Family recently received a season two renewal at Hulu, and the streamer has also ordered a dramedy pilot called Chicks, which she will star in and executive produce. She continues her role in Grey’s Anatomy while also serving as an executive producer on the franchise’s upcoming West Texas spinoff.
